A P200-MILLION automated waste sorting facility in Batangas City is expected to enhance the province’s recyclable waste processing capacity.
Launched by the Macaraig Group of Companies (MGC) on Tuesday, the new material recovery facility (MRF) covers a 20,000-square meter property in Barangay San Jose Sico.
“We believe that with the launch of this automated MRF, we can finally put an end to open dumpsites, help prolong the lifespan of sanitary landfills and open new ways in recovering waste that will lead to zero waste in the future,” MGC Chairman Allen Macaraig said.
The facility will house a waste segregation machine to efficiently process and store compostable and recyclable materials.
Macaraig noted that waste sorting was usually done manually in existing MRFs.
The automatic municipal waste sorting line will have a capacity of up to 25 tons per hour or 400 tons per day.
The new facility was introduced through MGC subsidiaries BlueEnviron Material Recovery Inc and Wastecon Inc.
“Building this state-of-the-art MRF is MGC’s way of forging an active partnership with the Batangas City LGU (local government unit) and the DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) to ensure the protection of public health and the environment through a systematic, comprehensive, and ecological waste management as mandated by RA (Republic Act) 9003,” BlueEnviron President Andrew Yap said.
